Solar suitability across Lincoln and Lincolnshire
Lincoln has a useful local climate record for exploring solar. The Met Office’s Waddington station records around 1,630 hours of sunshine a year in its 1991–2020 averages. Its seasonal figures range from around 62 sunshine hours in January to 206 in July.
These figures provide context for the Lincoln area, rather than a generation forecast for every property across Lincolnshire. Solar panels can also generate electricity on cloudy days, but output changes with the weather and seasons. Your own estimate needs to account for the roof, shading and proposed system.

We support homeowners and businesses across Lincoln and Lincolnshire, including towns and villages across the county.
A city terrace, a village home and a rural business building can present very different opportunities. We consider usable roof space, direction and pitch, nearby trees and buildings, roof condition and access for installation.
In historic streets, the appearance of the roof and any heritage restrictions need careful consideration. For rural and more exposed properties, the technical survey must also establish the appropriate mounting and structural requirements. An open outlook alone does not confirm solar suitability.
For businesses, daytime electricity demand, operating hours and ownership or landlord permissions help establish whether a survey is the right next step. For homes, we consider household routines, battery options and future electricity needs.

What should your solar proposal consider?
Your roof and likely generation
Solar panels generate electricity from daylight, including on cloudy days, although output varies with weather and season. A useful estimate considers your actual roof direction, pitch and shading rather than promising the same result for every home across the county.
How your property uses electricity
We consider when and how you use electricity, including household routines or business operating hours, and any plans for electric vehicles or other changes. The aim is a system that fits your needs, with clear assumptions behind any savings estimate.
Whether a battery adds value
A battery can store surplus solar electricity for later. Its suitability depends on your usage, tariff, budget and expected generation. We help you understand the additional cost and likely benefit before deciding whether storage belongs in your proposal.
A complete installation price
Panel numbers alone do not make two quotations equivalent. Equipment, scaffolding, roof complexity, electrical work, warranties and handover arrangements all affect what you are buying.
How much do solar panels cost in Lincoln and Lincolnshire?
Your price depends on the design and work required at your property. Adding a battery, changing equipment specifications or needing additional roof access or electrical work can change the total.
Watt starts with your information and an initial suitability review. Where it is appropriate to progress, a pre-survey helps establish the roof, access and electrical requirements before a tailored design and reliable quotation are prepared.
Ask for a written breakdown of what is included, any exclusions, payment terms and warranties. Savings and payback should be explained with their assumptions and remain estimates, rather than promises.
There is no fee to the homeowner for Watt’s initial suitability review and decision-support service. Any installation is priced and contracted separately by the installation partner.
Planning and grid checks in Lincoln and Lincolnshire
Many domestic rooftop solar installations can use permitted development rights, subject to conditions. Listed buildings, conservation areas, local restrictions and unusual installations need particular care. A conservation-area address does not automatically rule solar out.
In Lincoln and across the county, check the local planning authority responsible for your property’s address, particularly for listed buildings and conservation areas. Confirm any permissions or consents needed before work begins. Your installer must also establish the applicable electricity-network notification or approval requirements; these can affect the final design and timing.
Useful guidance: Planning Portal’s domestic solar guidance and Historic England’s guidance on consents and permissions.

Questions about solar across Lincoln and Lincolnshire
Can you review a business or commercial property?
Yes. We consider the premises, electricity use, operating hours and your objectives, with ownership or landlord permissions where relevant. Explore our business solar suitability review or contact us to discuss your site.
Do solar panels work through Lincolnshire’s winter?
They can generate electricity in winter, but shorter days and weaker sunlight mean lower output than in summer. Your proposal should explain expected seasonal generation and how much electricity you may still need to buy.
Do I need a south-facing roof?
An unshaded south-facing roof is favourable, but east- and west-facing roofs can also be suitable. We review your roof rather than assuming that one direction alone determines the answer.
Does Watt Solar Company install the panels?
Watt provides solar decision support and manages your customer journey. An approved MCS-certified installation partner carries out the technical survey, design and installation and provides the installation contract.
Do I have to buy a battery?
No. A battery should be recommended only where the likely benefits justify its cost for your household. Solar without storage may be an appropriate option.
Can you help me understand another solar quotation?
Yes. We can help you identify differences in the proposed equipment, design, installation scope and assumptions. We do not claim to compare every installer or offer in the market.
What happens if solar is unsuitable?
We explain the concern and whether more information could change the assessment. Completing the check does not create an obligation to buy.
